Jimmie Hunter

John Carney, Jimmie Hunter
Boquete Jazz & Blues Festival, 22 Feb 2019

The man, the music.

Music has always been in the heart of Jimmie Lee Hunter III. The Dallas, Texas native started singing at a very young age. By 14 he was playing bass guitar. During his teens he played and sang with local bands and choirs.

In the early 80’s, Jimmie sang lead vocals and played bass for a regional club band called Redline. He traveled  Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Florida and Las Vegas . In 1988 he moved to Houston and played bass for ex BB King legend Milton Hopkins. In 1990, along with Mike Galioni, Jimmie started a Tuesday night “Jam” at Live Bait, which lasted almost 10 years. He met many, many great musicians from around the city. In 1993 he joined the Big Otis Show Band and was with that band until starting his own band “Jimmie Jam Hunter & Fair Game” in 1998.

Breaking out on his own gave Jimmie the freedom to express himself trough his original music, along with playing the music of many artists. Some the artists that influenced and inspired him include: Earth, Wind & Fire, Marvin Gaye, Barry White, Prince, Gap Band, Temptations, Commodores, Jimi Hendrix, The Eagles and Luther Vandross.

Currently “The Jimmie Hunter Band” is a great mix of smooth Jazz, Motown, R&B, Blues and 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and current hits. This is your ultimate party band for all occasions!
